Supreme Court Says Censorship Is OK
Free speech takes a big hit with ruling, Plus Mike Pence attacks Assange
Mid-morning today the ruling came down from the Supreme Court. The august body, seat of wisdom, said that it was OK for the Biden administration to bully/partner with social media companies with the aim of limiting and suppressing speech. Basically the Supreme Court has given the green light to laundering censorship. It’s a big loss for pro-First Amendment folks. It’s a big loss for everyday Americans.
Senator Rand Paul had this to say on the ruling;
“Today's SCOTUS decision makes it clear we urgently need to defend our God-given right to free expression. It's time to fight back and pass my Free Speech Protection Act so the government can no longer cloak itself in secrecy to undermine the First Amendment rights of Americans.”
It was our understanding that US government was prohibited from censoring the speech of Americans. Consider that the government actively censored real, valid information around Covid and the 2020 election. Consider also that the government pushed totally false narratives around Russia collusion, Hunter Biden’s laptop, and Covid. This was wrong. It was and is clearly wrong. Yet the Supreme Court just said that in the United States, The Land of the Free, it is OK for a government that regularly lies to us, to manipulate, censor, and oppress the speech of its citizens.
It seems oddly appropriate that the Supreme Court would rule this way the day after Julian Assange gained his freedom (for the time being.)
By the way check out what Mike Pence had to say about Assange being released.
“Julian Assange endangered the lives of our troops in a time of war and should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. The Biden administration’s plea deal with Assange is a miscarriage of justice and dishonors the service and sacrifice of the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families. There should be no plea deals to avoid prison for anyone that endangers the security of our military or the national security of the United States. Ever.”
