Pete Hegseth for SecDef: Real change for the Pentagon?
One thing is for sure, things are going to change at the top of the military
This guy will in all likelihood be the next Secretary of Defense.
The Fox News host, Army Major, and graduate of both Harvard and Princeton (we won’t hold this against him) has been tapped to be the next Secretary of Defense by president-elect Trump.
He is an interesting choice. He is not part of the system, the giant Military Industrial Complex hydra that lives in the Pentagon. But he lacks senior management experience of any kind. Now he will be managing a military with over 1 million service members. That’s a big job. That we are perilously close to a global war (remember that?) is also another small issue
Of course the battered and bruised on the left have attacked the choice, which is to be expected given his lack of institutional experience and loyalty to the Washington leviathan. They also don’t like Hegseth because he has thoroughly criticized the military for embracing “wokism”, a philosophy that the current head of the Joint Chiefs, CQ Brown has embraced.
Hegseth has also criticized NATO and has argued that women should not be in infantry combat roles.
