Many people probably did bad things for what they thought were good reasons during the first Trump era

Now these people fear exposure

Remember the people who called themselves “the resistance"? I do. I live in a pleasant “progressive” college town and practically every Subaru hatchback on the road had a “resist” bumper sticker slapped on it.

I always found this rather funny as Trump in many ways actually represented “resistance”. It was a resistance to the world that Obama, Hillary Clinton and company, the people who took the Democratic Party to the far-left, wanted to impose on the country. That is why Trump was elected the first time.

During Trump’s presidency and extending into the Biden years many people who thought they were doing good likely (in some cases definitely) did some very bad things. We’ll bet that some of those things might have even been illegal. Consider the collusion around “Russiagate” and the fact that Hillary Clinton deleted those 30K+ emails, and Comey, and “Operation Hurricane Crossfire”. Consider that the Biden administration actively violated the First Amendment by targeting American citizens for censorship. Consider the perpetuation of outright lies around Covid from the very top. Consider the 50 intel people who swore that the Hunter Biden laptop story was “Russian misinformation”.

The Committee’s first joint interim staff report revealed how the now-infamous and discredited Hunter Biden statement originated with a call from top Biden campaign official—and now Secretary of State—Antony Blinken to former Deputy CIA Director Michael Morell to provide talking points and cover for the Biden campaign to discredit serious allegations about the Biden family’s influence peddling. Morell's testimony also exposed that the goal of the statement was to aid President Biden in the final debate of the 2020 presidential campaign.

And there are probably dozens of other instances like these that we don’t remember at this moment.

Basically a large swathe of people in the government and the media probably thought that the means justified the ends. They likely did bad things for what they thought were good reasons. Some people people in positions of power had convinced themselves that Trump was Hitler incarnate. As such, violating the law, committing unethical acts, in the minds of some was justified.

The thing is, it wasn’t justified. Not JUST because Trump is no fascist, but also because in this country we are supposed to have the rule of law. You’re not a good person if you violate the law because you feel like the president is a terrible guy and because you think he deserves to feel pain. In fact that makes you, well, a bad person.
