If Trump gets in some federal employees fear he will move their government cheese (to new states)
Goodbye Beltway, Hello high plains
It is hard for people who have not lived in and around Washington DC to fathom the size and scope of the federal employee machine. It is massive. It is all pervasive. It is deeply entitled.
A great example of this entitlement is the current fear within many federal employee circles that they might have to (gasp!) move if Trump is elected.
But it is even worse than that. Some of the feds might have to move to places near where their agencies are most involved. That means that it is possible, and for many feds used to shopping at Tyson’s Corner and enjoying a special status in a company town this would be a fate worse than death, that these taxpayer funded employees might even be forced to live in the Midwest!
The Midwest. Perish the thought.
At Against Crony Capitalism we think dispersing the federal workforce is among the best of Donald Trump’s proposals. Washington, the imperial city, needs to be broken up. Relocating federal employees to what they would consider the hinterlands is a good first step.
One, because a good number of federal employees, who often (but certainly not always) enjoy exceedingly cushy jobs, who remain on the taxpayer payroll even though they are way past their prime will finally quit. These people will cash out and enjoy their lavish pensions in Northern Virginia or Bethesda instead of relocating to Little Rock Arkansas. The more we can move these people out to pasture the better. Yes they still get to enjoy pensions that the taxpayers who fund those pensions can only dream about but one must start somewhere, and this is a start.
I once had a rather heated “discussion” with a government employee of no particular distinction or responsibility who asserted that they and their ilk were the country’s “managers”. I laughed and explained to this person very calmly, really almost Yoda-like, that government employees work for the taxpayer and that this person should never forget that.
OK, maybe I wasn’t so Yoda-like when I said it. I might have raised my voice, just slightly. This federal employee then stomped off in disgust, which was fine as I was trying to enjoy my afternoon.
