Escalation: US troops to man Israeli anti-missile batteries? China simulates Taiwan blockade
We are slipping into a war we should not slip into
Last month there was a poll that came out that said that over 50% of Americans thought we were on the edge of World War III.
A new Cato Institute survey of 1,500 Americans conducted by YouGov in the crucial swing states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin finds exhaustion with the current course of US foreign policy. Most say the US is “too involved” in world affairs and global conflicts (WI: 53%, PA: 50%, MI: 52%); majorities say US foreign policy does not put American interests first (WI: 62%, PA: 61%, MI: 60%); and majorities think it’s likely that the US is “closely” approaching World War III (WI: 59%, PA: 51%, MI: 54%).
And that was last month, before we knew that France was slated to send a battalion to Romania next year in something Paris calls “Operation Dacian Spring”.
Exercises like Dacian Spring send a strategic message, reinforcing the alliance’s resolve and capabilities.
"We used to play war," General Bertrand Toujouse was quoted as saying by Politico.
"Now there's a designated enemy, and we train with people with whom we'd actually go to war."
It was also before China started running drills simulating a blockade of Taiwan.
It was before the report last week that North Korean troops are actively fighting and dying with the Russians in Ukraine.
We’ve gone into many other recent global developments in recent weeks. We have been and are, concerned. We are sad to say that the trajectory toward a truly world-wide war has not shifted. In fact with news that we will soon have American troops actively participating with Israeli troops on the ground in Israel to counter Iran and by extension Iran’s more powerful backers, we can actually say that the trend toward a war on many fronts now feels like it is accelerating.
Additionally the blockade drill by China is a serious development that goes beyond past intimidation from Beijing.
In many respects a global war is already happening.
