Dems and US Chamber want tax law, GOP blocks, But mostly just political
The Chamber is twisting arms presently on Capitol Hill
Most of the Republicans would be more than happy to pass this legislation, at least most of it, if political circumstances were different. For instance, if Trump had pushed the bill as “pro-business” most of the GOP would have gotten on board. As it is however the GOP is sort of, kinda, doing what a conservative party should be doing, and that is fighting to protect the taxpayers from wasteful spending.
Of course neither the Democrats or the Chamber see the bill in question as wasteful spending.
The truth is most of the big government GOP doesn’t either, or they do and just don’t care, but they want to deny the Biden administration a legislative win.
It’s politics.
Senator Grassley says that he is concerned that if the legislation passed, and then Trump lost, that there would be little chance that the 2017 tax cuts would survive.
