A leading candidate for Dem CA Senate nomination says she'll work to ban earmarks (political pork)
Katie Porter is seeking to replace Diane Feinstein, a great fan of earmarks and porky spending, and is running against Peter Schiff and Barbara Lee, representatives who both LOVE their political porcine products. It is refreshing to see such a public (anti-earmark) stance from a serious Democratic candidate for the Senate.
She appears to be slightly wrong on why it is wise to ban earmarks however. She argues that the Feds can better spend taxpayer money than individual members of Congress, which is kind of a silly argument. Both the feds and congress are much worse at spending taxpayer money than the taxpayers. But we are happy to see her public position nonetheless.
She also argues pork is more likely to go to GOP districts, which may or may not be true but wouldn’t surprise us.*
