A Karen takes over at NPR, Freaks out over free speech
This Karen is named Kathrine, and she is a full on anti-speech authoritarian
There was a time when I listened to hours of NPR. Yes it was lefty silliness often, but it was also often quite good too. I grew up on Click and Clack and All Things Considered and I even regularly tuned into Diane Rehm. I listened nearly every day at least a little bit. NPR was on my presets. I can even remember thinking as a young man, that I might, possibly, send in a contribution. (Thankfully I did not.)
But that was a long time ago and back before the illiberal left came to completely dominate the outlet, an outlet partially funded by American taxpayers.
I tried a few months ago to listen to NPR in a moment of nostalgia. Perhaps I’d catch Terry Gross on Fresh Air interviewing some jazz musician or something. What I heard (I must admit I don’t remember the exact specifics) within minutes was the most ridiculous woke code word newspeak I’ve ever heard on a radio station. The illiberalism was on full blatant display. It was absurd. Something about “cis” something or another I think. I sighed and did what any sane reasonably educated person would (and should) do and turned off NPR and listened to a podcast.
It was sad to hear. Seriously, I was genuinely sad. Though NPR was always far left, it was also the place where I’d sort of dip in and check out what was shaking with my liberal friends. But the NPR of the past was no more. The liberals were gone it seemed and the illiberals had taken over.
That’s why it was no surprise to me when actual liberal Uri Berliner explained how in the wake of Trump and the Floyd riots that NPR came to totally become an antispeech, pro censorship, pro woke, advocate of thought policing and Maoist liberation nonsense. I mean, he didn’t quite say that, but he might as well have. Because he had the courage to tell the truth Berliner was let go yesterday after a quarter of a century. (Technically he resigned.)
